Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Hurts

Although some people experience excruciating pain because of their wisdom teeth, it is not the case for everybody. A lot of people have no problems with their wisdom teeth at all, and they come through, causing no issues. If your wisdom teeth are starting to come through though and you are in pain, visit trusted dentists such as those at the Noosa dental clinic Tewantin Dental Centre. They will be able to let you know what is going on.

You Must Get Your Wisdom Teeth Extracted

Again, in some cases, people do need to get their wisdom teeth extracted as they are growing at a funny angle or become impacted. However, if your wisdom teeth are not causing any issues, then there is no need to extract them. You will often find that if you have a problem with one wisdom tooth, they may remove the opposite one on the lower or upper jaw also so that when the problem one is removed, the good one is not biting down on your gum.

A reputable dentist will never remove a tooth unless there is a good reason. If your wisdom teeth are coming through now, there is a good chance you will not have any problems at all.

Not Everybody Has Wisdom Teeth

There is a bit of truth to this as not everyone does have wisdom teeth. Some people have them, but they never push through the gums. Wisdom teeth start to form when we are in our early teens, but they do not begin to push through the gums until the late teens or early twenties. Most people that develop wisdom teeth will get four, one at the back of each back tooth. However, some people only get one, and some people get more than four, and about one-third of people do not develop wisdom teeth at all.

Wisdom Teeth Have No Use

Our wisdom teeth were a leftover from our ancestors when they were eating a much tougher diet which required a lot of chewing. Our modern diets are much softer, but we still eat a variety of foods, some of which require a lot of chewing. That means they do serve a purpose if they are in the correct position in your mouth and do not cause any problems.

These are some of the most common myths about wisdom teeth, but a quick search on the internet will show you there are lots more besides what we mentioned above. Make sure that you visit your dentist regularly. At the first signs of any dental problems, book an appointment to see them.
